Social Media/Marketing Internship

The Contra Costa Community College District Communications and Community Relations Office is seeking a Social Media/Marketing intern with a background in photography, videography, journalism and/or graphic design. 

  • Position Start Date: Spring 2024

  • Schedule: 10-20 hours per week; flexible

  • Compensation: $16.00 per hour + course credit

  • Location: This assignment is primarily remote, though in person attendance at events will be required as necessary. Access to reliable transportation is preferred.

Internship Requirements

  • Current Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College or Los Medanos College student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units for Fall/Spring semesters and 3 units for Summer semesters

  • Enrollment in your college’s Work Experience Education Program

  • Access to reliable internet connection + computer/laptop

Internship Responsibilities

The Social Media/Marketing intern will assist in creating content for social media in order to increase the visibility of the colleges and the District as a whole.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Photography/videography of events

  • Creating content for Facebook & Instagram

  • Basic video/audio editing

  • Virtual interviewing of college students, faculty and staff for publication

  • Writing newsletter stories

Desired Experience

  • Background in Business, Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design

  • Social media marketing experience via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

  • Familiarity with Zoom, Adobe Suite, Canva and Microsoft Outlook

Aditee Piya is studying Business Administration at Contra Costa College. She is excited to gain exposure to various digital marketing channels, including social media marketing, content creation, and website analytics.
Ella Laigo joined 4CD as a Social Media/Marketing Intern during the Spring 2023 semester. Ella is currently majoring in Sociology at Los Medanos College. She attended LMC and DVC during high school and is excited to learn more about the district during this internship.
Austin Green is a Communications Studies major at Los Medanos College with plans of transferring to a CSU. Austin is well versed in the 4CD community, after serving as the Student Trustee for 2021-2022, representing students on the 4CD Governing Board.
Amanda Hassitt joined the 4CD team as a fall 2022 Social Media/Marketing Intern. She worked in the Marketing department at Los Medanos College and hopes to continue learning about marketing and social media platforms.
Drinnie Francisco was selected for the 4CD Spring 2022 Marketing Internship. She is currently attending Los Medanos College, majoring in Graphic Communication.
Victor Rodriguez Victor Rodriguez attends Contra Costa College and is majoring in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design.
Charlene Cordero attended Diablo Valley College, where she was a student ambassador before becoming a 4CD intern. She now attends San Jose State University.
Iyan Godwin was a student at Los Medanos College, where he studied economics and computer science, before transferring to UC Berkeley. During his internship, he gained skills that supported his professional career – and won 2 State Championships in Track & Field!
Lauryn Leong was selected as a fall 2021 social media/marketing intern. Lauryn studied communications at Diablo Valley College, before she transferred to UCLA to pursue a bachelor's degree in communications.
Spencer Batute joined the District as a Spring 2020 intern. Before transferring to a four-year university in Fall 2020, Spencer attended Los Medanos College where he studied Journalism.
Krys Shahin joined the District as a Spring and Summer 2020 intern. A Los Medanos College (LMC) Journalism student, Krys utilized their writing and interviewing skills to contribute to District publications. Krys transferred to Sacramento State University in Fall 2020 to pursue a Journalism and Political Science degree.
"I liked being able to use and hone my skills as a journalist in marketing, which is a field I never thought about working in,” shared Krys. “This experience has helped teach me even more about how to appropriately and adequately promote and market content in a professional way."
Jazlyn Castro joined the District as a Fall 2019 intern. She is preparing to transfer to a four-year university after graduating from Los Medanos College next semester where she is currently studying Communications/Graphic Design.
Viola Dioh joined the District as a Fall 2019 intern. A Los Medanos College Communications/Journalism student, Viola aspires to work as a reporter for the United Nations and focus on children in war zones.
“It was amazing. Rocky at times, but definitely reassuring for me to pursue my chosen career. I learned a lot about being responsible since most of our work was solely our responsibility,” said Viola.
Claire Huang joined the District as a Summer 2019 intern. She is currently attending Los Medanos College where she is studying Communications.
"I was able to learn a lot about myself through this internship," shared Claire. "I understood myself more as a worker, my strengths, what I can improve upon, and was also able to confirm that I made the right decision in pursuing Marketing."
Chris Dewey joined the District as a Summer 2019 intern. A Diablo Valley College alumnus, Chris recently completed a Graphic Design certificate and is looking forward to entering the workforce in a new career.
"Before this internship, I was seriously considering higher education as an industry to pursue a career in, now I have some industry knowledge and experience on my resume," said Chris.
Masamunde Toyoda joined the District as a Spring 2019 intern. He is currently attending Diablo Valley College and plans to transfer in Spring 2020 to pursue a bachelor's degree in Communications.
"This experience helped me understand how to analyze for social media and gave me opportunities to attend educational events to take photos and videos," said Masa. "In the future, when I apply for a new job, I efinitely have a lot more to talka bout as a marketing person."
Dyana Ner joined the District as a Spring 2019 intern. A Los Medanos College alumna, Dyana is now attending UC Berkeley.
"This internship has been extremely beneficial to me in regards to learning what position I'd like to pursue in the future," shared Dyana. "It made me more certain of the job I plan on pursuing, along with giving me more confidence moving forward from this position."
Tamara Seward joined the District as a Fall 2018 intern. She is currently attending Los Medanos College where she is studying Journalism.
"My internship was challenging and fun. I enjoyed learning about the college district itself as well as the individual colleges. The internship gives students a chance to learn and grow their knowledge of social media and marketing."
Ryan Parajas joined the District as a Summer 2018 intern. A Los Medanos College alumnus, Ryan is now attending San Jose State University where he is studying Graphic Design.
"The experience I had in this internship was phenomenal! Not only that I got to put my design skills into good use but got to improve some of my interpersonal skills. This is an experience I will never forget and I am very thankful for having this opportunity."
Kaihan Omar joined the District as a Spring 2018 intern. He is currently attending Diablo Valley College, San Ramon where he is studying Business Communications.
"So far I have learned many valuable skills," said Kaihan. "This internship is an excellent first step into the world of marketing and communications."
Ruizhe Wang joined the District as a Spring 2018 intern. He is currently attending Diablo Valley College, Pleasant Hill where he is studying Communications.
"My intern experience is combined with fun and challenges," shared RZ. "I'd recommend to students who have a passion to improve their social, communication or marketing skills."
Lorenzo Morotti joined the District as a Summer 2017 intern. A Contra Costa College alumnus, Lorenzo is now attending San Francisco State University where he is studying Journalism.
Veronica Hanel joined the District as a Summer 2017 intern. A Los Medanos College alumna, Veronica transferred and then graduated from UC Berkeley. She returned to Los Medanos College to pursue Graphic Design.
Rajat Paul joined the District as a Summer 2016 intern. A Los Medanos College alumnus, Rajat is now attending UC Davis.
"My experience in the COOP 180 internship course was fun and challenging," he said. "I had fun learning more about the District employees."
Jamari Snipes joined the District as a Summer 2016 intern. A Los Medanos College alumna, Jamari is now attending UC Berkeley.
